About The Photographer

My photo
I have been taking photographs all my life. At age 10, I borrowed my father's old Pentax camera and headed out to the fields. I took my first photography class a year after under the guidance of a documentary filmmaker, developed my first B&W photo and was hooked. I have never stopped "thinking in frames" since. I pursued a career in science that trained me to be thorough, precise, patient. But photography remained my passion and I am only truly happy when behind the camera.

{ Susan & Willard } Wedding

When I photograph a wedding, I try to capture the story of two people that goes beyond their wedding day. Yes, there are The Rings and The Kiss and The Cake and all the formal pictures...but there is so much more to it! I want to capture the mood of the day, the smiles, the hugs, the surprises, love & passion, the complete let-go that happens right after the ceremony when every muscle relaxes and the real celebration begins. Sometime it is easy and sometimes a little harder.

With Susan & Willard, it was so easy. The sun was harsh and the shadows deep, one of the hardest light situations I have worked in, but the moments...incredible! This is their home, their property, a spiritual spot above the beautiful Bolinas Lagoon, among magnificent oak trees, blooming cherries and ripening lemons. She wore pink and he played in the bend. There were fruit trees and kayaks as their wedding gifts. The ceremony included meditation and ended with all the guests surrounding the couple and tying the string of love as a symbol of lifelong connection to the couple. They did it their own way and it was beautiful. Really beautiful. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
